What is 802.11k?

802.11k is a Wi-Fi standard that helps client devices (like phones, laptops, etc.) roam more efficiently between access points (APs) in a wireless network.

It allows the access point to share information about nearby APs with the client. This enables the device to make smarter decisions when switching from one AP to another — especially in environments with multiple APs.

Purpose

  • To improve roaming performance by giving clients a “map” of nearby APs.

  • To reduce the time and effort clients spend scanning for better signals.

  • To support seamless connectivity in large wireless deployments.

Steps 1: Navigate to the WLAN profile and select View / Edit

Step 2: Navigate to the Advance Section, enable the 802.11K checkbox, and then save your changes.
